Small tray inspired by Coffee Storage Tray but designed from scratch in Fusion 360. I wanted a small wooden project to try out my new Carvera Air on. I had a bit of Solid Oak Worktop leftover from a DIY job so a tray was ideal. The piece of oak worktop I had, has a thickness of 26mm so is a little deeper and slightly larger than the coffee tray. I also wanted to machine the top and bottom to see how accurate this could be if you directly bolted the stock to the work base. Lastly I purchased a couple of 6mm * 32mm bits to use on this project.

Please note: This is only my 5th project to make on the Carvera Air and CNC’ing is all new to me. This won’t be a polished step by step guide as I am a huge newbie.

I started by clamping down (as shown) a piece of oak worktop measuring 250mm x 150mm x 26mm at Anchor 1. In the board I cut 4x symmetrical holes that matched the mounting holes of the base board
I then mounted the board using the 4x symmetrical mounting holes and used the 3D probe to find the new origin referencing the bottom left corner of the board
The bottom oval base was contoured out using a 6×32mm Flat End bit. Next a relief cut was made to rough out the bottom sides, this was started at 0.1mm (to ignore the oval base) and to a depth of 22mm (to not cut all the way through) with a Bottom Allowance of 2mm (to leave some material for finishing). Lastly a bottom finish relief cut was made starting at 1mm to a depth of 22mm with 0mm Bottom Allowance and Multiple Depths turned off. This provided a really nice finish to the bottom outside of the tray
Now time to flip it over but first the bottom oval base had double sided tape applied which would be needed for the final contour cut of the top side. Again 4x standard long mounting screws are used
I then started machining the top side, however I did not really know how to do this and ended up doing sections at a time as I figured it out. It went along the lines of roughing the inside to 2mm before a final finish cut.
Last part was to cut out the outside contour leaving the tray taped to the base board. Outside finish was then made as the final cut.
The Small Tray was then unstuck from the base board and light sanding as made to remove any tiny cut lines.

The files I have included should give a good help in making this small tray but are not complete and will need some tweaking.
