Triangle Magnetic Slider Fidget

The absolute best ADHD killer and fidget gadget! The puck snaps with a super satisfying, tactile, and snappy click into all three corners of the triangle.

This is a premium, CNC-machined metal adaptation of the original 3D-printed design created by Pandastic Toys on MakerWorld, shared here as a CNC-machined hybrid version with their friendly consent!

🧩 How It Works (The 4-Piece Setup)

To get the satisfying metallic weight in your hand while ensuring an ultra-smooth glide, this project combines metal and 3D printing:

CNC-Machined Triangle Main Body: Milled from 10mm aluminum plate (holds 3 magnets).
CNC-Machined Slider Puck: Milled from 5mm aluminum plate (holds 1 magnet with a concave top for your thumb).
3D-Printed Main Cover Plate: Glued inside the body cavity to conceal the magnets and provide a textured, smooth sliding surface.
3D-Printed Puck Slide Plate: Glued under the puck (3D print sliding on 3D print creates minimum friction and zero metal-on-metal scratching!).

🛠️ Required Materials & Tools

Hardware & Materials:

Magnets: 4x Neodymium Disc Magnets (8x3 mm)
Adhesive: Superglue / Cyanoacrylate (CA Glue)
Aluminum Stock:
- 6061 Aluminum Plate ~10mm thick (for Main Body)
- 6061 Aluminum Plate ~5mm thick (for Slider Puck)
3D Printed Parts: Plastic Cover Plate & Plastic Slide Plate for Puck (Print with 0.2mm layer height and increase top/bottom layers to the maximum number to print it from solid material)

CNC Machine & Tools:

Machine: Makera Z1 (also works on Carvera and Carvera Air)
Tool 1: 4*12mm Single Flute Flat End Mill
Tool 2: 3.175mm x 90° Chamfer

🪜 Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: 3D Print the Slide Plates

Slice and print the two thin plastic plates (Plastic Cover Plate and Plastic Slide Plate for Puck).
Tip: A textured PEI build plate gives the sliding surface!

Step 2: CNC Milling the Main Body (10mm Aluminum)

Optional: You can use a 11 or 12mm Plate an face it off to 10mm to get a nice shiny finish if you want that.

Clamp your ~10mm aluminum stock into the Makera Low-Profile Vise.
Probe your stock origin on the lower left corner (X0, Y0, Z0).
Operation A (Pocketing): The 4mm Flat End Mill clears the internal triangle pocket and bores the 3 magnet recesses.
Operation B (Chamfering): Tool change to the 90° chamfer bit to bevel the internal and external rim.
Operation C (Outer Contour): The 4mm Flat End Mill cuts out the final triangle perimeter with small holding tabs.
Cut the tabs, remove the part, and lightly deburr the edges.

Step 3: CNC Milling the Slider Puck (Double-Sided Machining)

⚠️ Important: Double-sided machining requires accurate alignment! Open the “Puck.f3d” CAM file and adjust the stock dimensions to your exact stock thickness/size so the magnet pocket on the bottom lines up perfectly with the thumb dish on top. This is why there is no gcode included for the puck, because it will not work for you. The CAM File for the Puck is included, you just need to change your stock size after accurately measuring it!

Side 1 (Bottom): Secure your 5mm aluminum plate to the bed using clamps. Mill the center recess for the 8x3mm magnet.
Flip Stock: Flip the plate over, re-probe, and ensure proper WCS alignment.
Side 2 Roughing & Thumb Dish: Mill the top dish pocket and the outer clearing roughing pass.
Final Cutout: The 4mm end mill then cuts the circular contour down to the bed, leaving 3 small holding tabs.
Cut the tabs and smooth out the connection points.

Step 4: Assembly & Magnet Polarity (Crucial!)

⚠️ Check magnet orientations before applying glue!

Set Body Magnets: Glue three 8x3mm magnets into the bottom holes of the triangle body. Make sure the top-facing polarity is identical for all three magnets (e.g., all North facing UP).
Set Puck Magnet: Glue the single 8x3mm magnet into the bottom pocket of the puck with the opposite polarity facing down (e.g., South facing DOWN so it firmly attracts into all 3 corners).
Install 3D Plates:
- Glue the Plastic Cover Plate inside the bottom of the main triangle body over the magnets.
- Glue the Plastic Slide Plate over the magnet recess on the underside of the puck.
Let the glue fully cure.

Step 5: Ready to Fidget!

Snap the puck into the body. Push it between the three corners and enjoy the crisp, snappy magnetic clicks!
